Hi Again!
So lately I have been obsessed with distressed jeans- especially shorts.
I have lost a lot of weight since last summer and am too stingy to go out
and spend $20 on a pair of ripped up shorts.
Instead I have thrifted my way into a new shorts collection and could
not be more happy with the result!
Buy designer brand jeans for less than $2 and turn them into
a brand new pair of summer shorts? YES
I Youtubed several videos on how to distress denim and this is my
favorite method so far.
I have done a pictorial to show how simple and easy it is
to create your own unique pair of distressed jeans or shorts.
x0
1. Start by flattening out your denim on a flat surface
2. Cut a small slit to insert the scissors- be sure NOT to cut into the pocket!
3. Cut a horizontal line of where you want distressed look to be- as long or as short as you like
4. This is what mine looked like
5. Make another cut parallel to the first one you made.
6. Denim is made of blue and white threads. White threads are horizontal, blue threads are vertical. Begin by pulling all of the Vertical Blue threads out. This is best don't with a tweezer.
7. This particular pair of jean was more difficult to pull a single strand of blue thread out so I had to go done row by row and tug on the thread. Eventually I created enough white space going from top to bottom.
8. With that extra space it was much easier to work faster. Grab a blue thread from either end.
This is just step by step what it looks like as I pulled the thread out. Super simple and easy.
This is what my project looked like halfway done. (I wanted a wide distressed section)
It is ok if some of the white threads break as you pulled the blue ones; like you see in the picture below. This will only make your denim look more distressed.
Finished Project
Be sure to wash and dry your denim after you finish. It will help them shrink a bit and the
dryer will help ruffle up the distressed edges/spots.
The more you wear them, wash them and dry them,
the more worn and distressed they will look.
