Hello Beauties!
Today I wanted to talk about the importance of exfoliating. This is probably one of my most favorite things to do for my skin. I absolutely love the feeling of scrubbing off those pesky skin cells that you face wash misses; and revealing healthy, glowing skin. Here are your 5 Beauty W's:
What? It is a wash that contains fine beads, micro-crystals, sugars, or salts that when rub onto skin removes unwanted residue and penetrates pores for a deep clean.
Where? This particularly pertains to the importance offacial exfoliators but you can also exfoliate your body. So face and/or body.
When? You always want to exfoliate after washing your face with your preferred face wash. This way the majority of dirt is already removed from the initial layer of skin, and the exfoliator can work its magic to get rid of the dead skin and excess dirt left behind. Depending on the exfoliator it is recommended you do this 1-2 a week.
Why? Exfoliating is important for so many reason. Besides the above mentioned removal of dead skin, exfoliating reveals a new layer of skin eager to take in any treatment you provide it with. Wrinkle-serums, SPF, moisturizers, etc. are absorbed deeper into the skin because pathways are now cleaner. Exfoliating reduces acne and increases your skin cell rejuvenation process [even though you are constantly losing skin, this process speeds up when you scrub them off] Exfoliators help treat blackheads and remove dark spots from acne in the process as well. I think the natural glow factor is what propels this the most. Exfoliating at night and then waking up the next morning you will see a noticeable difference in the texture and color of your skin.
Some of the exfoliators I recommend:
- Clinique 7 Day Scrub- gentle enough to use everyday
- MAC Volcanic Ash
- Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub
- Burt's Bees Citrus Facial Scrub
- St. Ive's Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub
*Clinique and Mac can only be found at the department store, the rest are affordable drugstore products*
There are so many different types of exfoliators to try from all-natural to chemically enhanced [i.e. micro-dermabrasion]. Be sure to do your research before hand! Know your skin type, know what you are allergic to, know your sensitivity, look into brands and ingredients, etc. This method should apply for all your skin care needs. Sounds like a lot but you must do your research before slathering on any ol' product onto your face; and then you're left with an itchy, burning, swollen, broken out problem!
